Programs Offered at Hillcrest Resort
Hillcrest Resort offers the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety
Program. The objective of the program is to teach people to swim and to
be safe in, on, and around the water. The skills taught in the
Learn-To-Swim program include water entry and exit, breath control and
underwater swimming, buoyancy, changing direction and position,
treading, swimming on front, back and side, general and personal water
safety, and helping others.
American Red Cross Class Descriptions (Please read the following course
descriptions thoroughly when deciding where to place your child.)
Level 1: Introduction to water skills
(Must be 4 years old to enroll and be comfortable in the water)
Introduction to water skills
Purpose: To help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the
water safely. The course includes: water adjustment, floating on front
and back supported, blowing bubbles, kicking, swim on front and back
while supported 2 yards, and safety skills.
Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Purpose: To provide students with opportunities for success with
fundamental skills. The course includes: entering water independently by
jumping or stepping from the side, floating on front and back 5 seconds,
gliding on front and back 3 yards, swim on front and back unsupported 5
yards, and safety skills.
Level 3: Stroke Development
Purpose: To build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional
guided practice. The course includes: jumping into deep water,
demonstrate rotary breathing on front 5 times, front crawl 15 yards,
back crawl 15 yards, butterfly kick and body motion 5 yards, treading
water, and safety skills. Level 3 is taught in deep water. The child
must be comfortable in deep water.
Level 4: Introduction to Water Skills
Purpose: To build student confidence and performance of the strokes
learned in Level 3 by providing additional guided practice. This course
includes: diving, swimming underwater, front crawl 25 yards, back crawl
25 yards, butterfly 15 yards, breaststroke 15 yards, elementary
backstroke 15 yards, treading water 1 minute, and safety and rescue
skills.
Level 5: Skill Refinement
Purpose: To build on the skill in Level 4 by providing additional guided
practice. The course includes: diving, front crawl 50 yards, back crawl
50 yards, butterfly 25 yards, breaststroke 25 yards, elementary
backstroke 25 yards, sidestroke 25 yards, and safety and rescue skills.
Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Purpose: To refine strokes so that students swim with more ease,
efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. The course
includes: diving, front crawl 100 yards, back crawl 100 yards, butterfly
50 yards, elementary backstroke 50 yards, breaststroke 50 yards,
sidestroke 50 yards, turns for each stroke, and in depth safety and
rescue skills.
PRIVATE SWIMMING LESSONS
Private swimming lessons are offered to members who would like some
individual attention. Lessons run for 20-minutes. Sign-ups follow the
same procedure as swimming lessons registrations, on day one of the
session, one hour before the start of the lesson, on a first come, first
serve basis. Numbers are restricted. You can sign up each child for one
lesson per session. You may also check at 12 noon each day, to see if
there have been any cancellations or no shows. Spare slots will be
filled on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of lessons
will be offered at 9 am.
TOT TIME
A time set aside for tots, aged 2 to 4 and their mom/dad/babysitter to
come together, meet tots of a similar age, read a story, play games on
the beach, and then have fun in the water learning basic swimming
readiness skills.. Tot Time will last 40 minutes. Sign-ups required.
Parent Participation is required. |
